Methods For Charging A Body
A Body can charge in three different ways Known As Methods For Charging A Body:
1) Charging By Friction.
2) Charging By Induction.
3) Charging By Conduction.
Charging A Body By Friction:
Charging A Body By Friction It is a process in which the charge transfer takes when two bodies get rubbed with each other. The process takes place when two different bodies are rubbed with each other than due the friction heat is produced that heat taken by the surface atoms is. Then atoms have low electron affinity lose the electron and the atoms having with great electron affinity gains the electrons. So, therefore one body will acquire positive charge and another body will acquire the negative charge.
Since the body are rubbed with each others are insulating. So, the charge produce the friction will say on the surface. Hence the phenomenon is called as Static Electricity (That is the charge will stay on the surface of the conductor) Which is known as Electrostatics.
Example Of Charging A Body By Friction:
When a Rod of rubber is rubbed with the Fur cloth the rubber cloth will acquire the Negative charge and the fur cloth will acquire the Positive charge.
Charging A Body By Induction:
Charging A Body By Induction is a process of charging a body with the help of a charged body without having contact in them. The process takes place when a positive charge glass rod is place closer to a metal sphere the positive charge of glass rod attracts the negative charge of the metal sphere towards itself and repels the positive charge away from it. So, the phase of the metal sphere opposite to the glass rod will acquire Negative charge and in other phase will acquire Positive charge.The Induction process is always cause of opposite polarity
Note: Induction is a purely temporarily process when the glass rod is removed immediately the positive and Negative charge will neutralise each other.
Charging A Body By Conduction:
Charging A Body By Conduction is a process in which the charge transfer takes when a charged body completely touched with the uncharged body. Conduction will takes place when a charged glass rod is touched with a uncharged metal sphere the Conduction of the charge takes place from glass rod to metal sphere i.e. the charge will flow from the glass rod to the metal sphere. As the result of this the metal sphere gets charged.
The charge on the body can be detected by the gold leaf electroscope.
Note: Charge will also associated with mass a body which is massless can never carry the charge
Example: Photons are massless that’s why they are charge less.
Note: There is always a change in the mass whenever there is a transfer of charge. A body which gains electrons this body will gain mass because of weight of the electrons and if a body will lose electrons will lose its mass.
